Custom Timber Joinery

A Georgian style new build, Ruben’s Joinery is currently fitting out this stunning multi-storey home, which is sure to be one of the most expensive homes built in Fendalton, Christchurch.

Currently under construction since early 2023, this owner of this home started planning for this is 2021 (during the pandemic), with London-based architect Ben Pentreath.

The construction site is already making waves amongst the Fendalton and wider Christchurch community because of it’s size. The finished home will be 825m2 over three storeys.

Georgian architecture is known for it’s symmetry and proportion, based on classical architecture in Greece and Rome, they’re built to provide the home a feeling of openness and space and natural light. Decorative arches and columns are also common with this architectural period.

To adhere to the 18th century Georgian style home’s style, bespoke timber joinery will be needed throughout the home. This work will be completed by Ruben’s Joinery.

The challenge:

Because of the scale of this build, and the fine detail needed to complete this project, we were presented with many challenges. Unlike many new builds in today’s age, where timber joinery is often manufactured to a more standardised plan that can be used across multiple dwellings, this project provided us with more complicated and challenging plans. This includes curved timber window frames, custom timber French doors and an elegant timber staircase across three levels, all while adhering to a strict architectural brief and 18th century design.

Timber Doors:

French timber doors are a popular choice for homeowners who want to add some differentiation in style to their home. They serve a practical purpose, with light being able to flood in through a home, while also adding an element of sophistication and class. This Glandovey Road mansion has multiple French timber doors throughout the home, both rectangular and curved.

Timber Framed Windows:

Timber framing around French style windows are also a project that we are manufacturing for our client. We are manufacturing the timber framing around the windows to a high-standard, while adding customised detailing to add texture and elegance to the framing. This project has rectangular framed windows across the bottom floor, curved framing across the second storey and smaller rectangular windows on the conservatory level.

Staircase:

A Georgian style staircase is a simple, yet sophisticated design element we are manufacturing for this project. The balustrade provides an ornamental and decorative feature on the staircase that will provide a striking element to the home. The woodworking and joinery involved in this process is extensive, where the utmost care and attention to detail is needed.
